KAP HOLNIS · The peninsula
One peninsula. Many stories.
Today, a place of quiet. Once an island, a home to brickworks and a part of life on the Förde.

Shaped by the water
Holnis was originally an island. Diking permanently connected it to the mainland in 1929. Noor, coast and salt meadows still show how closely land and water belong together here.

Clay, bricks and the Förde
Clay deposits along the Flensburger Förde made the region a centre for brick production. Holnis had brickworks in Holnishof, Schausende and at the northern beach. The coastal scenery is also a cultural landscape.

A place for nature
The northern peninsula has been protected since 1993. Salt meadows, cliffs and Kleines Noor provide habitat and resting places for many bird species. Protecting this landscape shapes Holnis today.
