Brick red on the Förde
There were once around 70 brickworks along the Flensburg Förde, and three of them stood on Holnis.

Many houses in the region still carry this colour. It recalls a time when the Förde lived from brick-making.
Clay, water, ships
The region's clay deposits made the Förde a centre of brick production. Clay from the coast, water at the door, ships for transport: the Förde offered everything a brickworks needed.
Three brickworks on Holnis
Three of them stood on the peninsula: at Holnishof, in Schausende and at the Nordstrand.
What remains
Today the industry is gone. Only a few remains of the brickworks near the cliff can still be found. From the former site you look out over the noor.
